Hard truth, soft pillow for International Women’s Day: Pay women.
My friend, every year since 2015, I have been asked to speak at events to celebrate IWD and Women’s History Month.
And every year, without fail, at least one of those “offers” is unpaid.
(Happily, this year the two events I was invited to speak at were both paid, and are both shaping up to be absolutely incredible days, one in Toronto alongside Joanna Griffiths, and one in Calgary alongside Janine Rogan).
This year I also had the chance to be interviewed by YourTV Group to share insights on:
- the moving target of success
- work-life integration
- the importance of integrity and values-based leadership – for all 12 months of the year.
The gender pay gap is real.
The cost of living is soaring.
Your value lies in your experience, in addition to your time.
When I talk about the seven pillars of becoming a Good, Enough Leader,
- Confidence
- Courage
- Follow Through
…are instrumental.
I can’t think of a better time, for both the women and the men reading this right now, to really think about what that means in terms of paying women for their true value.
What are your thoughts on IWD: valuable in moving the dial, or pinkwashing? I’d love to know; hit reply with your hot take.
Warmly and with thanks,
Leisse
PS: there are still a few tickets left for both Becoming Her TO, and the Wealthy Women’s Summit. Both are rooms full of professional women looking to connect with like-valued individuals and build genuine relationships of conscious capitalism.
